This means I'm presented with a window with maybe fifty generic (all the same) thumbnail icons. If I change the Files Type from Common Graphic to All Files (*.*) I see generic thumbnail icons for each CR2 - but I don't see the actual image thumbnail in the "Open" folder window. If not, please reply again and we'll ponder some more. Hopefully it's one of those two possibilities. If you change that from Common Graphic files to All files (*.*), then you should see all files including the CR2 files. When you open IrfanView directly and go to a CR2 containing folder, do you mean that the CR2 files don't show in the Open dialog box? If so, there's a selection box near the bottom marked Files of Type. If you're trying to figure out the Load Custom list, try selecting it, and copying it into a text program like Notepad.Īnother thought. If you would like CR2 files to be displayed while browsing through the directory, this might be the answer. If Load Custom is selected, it uses the list of vertical bar separated extensions in the text box below. There are a couple of radio buttons underneath: Load only associated file types while moving through directory and Load Custome file types. If you go to Properties>Extensions you'll see a window which associates file extensions with IrfanView. Its only the "OPEN" window that doesn't show any thumbnails. It would appear that I correctly installed the Canon Plugin - in that once the image thumbnail is selected from the Thumbnail viewer, IrfanView has no trouble opening and displaying the file. But running IrfanView directly all the thumbnails are blank images (if File Types = CR2) or no thumbnails (if File Types = Common Graphic). There has got to be something missing in that if the image/thumbnail is selected from the Thumbnail viewer first, it works just fine. If I change the Files of Type to Canon Raw - the program presents all the CR2 files with the "Cat" icon - no thumbnail image - all the same with the "Cat" and the Image file name. This is with the "Files of Type" set to Common Graphic Files. What is strange is that IrfanView works just fine if the image is selected from the "IrfanView ThumbNail" viewer first - it opens the main IrfanView program window with the CR2 image displayed.īut if I start IrfanView, select the Open File, go to the same picture folder that I used in the ThumbNail viewer, no images are shown. Thanks - that didn't make any difference. When we`d take a shot at radiologists-saying they have no personalities-right away we`d get letters.'' But people are sensitive, and when we`d do jokes about the hospital food, nutritionists threatened to bring a class-action suit. Most of the complaints were about diagnostic procedures. ''We`d get complaints after every episode,'' said Paltrow, now working on a new NBC show called ''Tattinger`s.'' ''But we`d get accolades as well. Earlier this year, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons took MTM Enterprises and NBC to court, seeking $10 million in damages for allegedly portraying the organization as ''devoted to adultery, philandering, male chauvinism and law-breaking.'' It was a show to offend, especially those in the medical profession. This spring`s nude-surgery episode was loosely based on a Swedish study reported in a medical journal that suggested that fewer bacteria would be dispersed by naked operating room personnel than those in scrub clothes. Its tools were compassion, pathos, double entendres and latrine humor, and the writers would keep up to date by checking out such periodicals as the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Association and Lancet. The reconciliation of surgical chief Mark Craig and wife Ellen is threatened when she accepts a job at a hospital in Cleveland-prompting characteristic caustic comments from her husband, who dismisses the beckoning institution as ''a place where you wouldn`t send Gadhafi`s mother'' and the Ohio city as ''a land of billowing smokestacks. Before heading off to Nicaragua, Fiscus treats an opera singer who is dressed as a Valkyrie. Daniel Auschlander, who is also trying to keep the hospital from closing up, finally bloom. Eligius, the seedy South Boston teaching hospital whose derisive nickname, of course, gives the program its title. ''They were dying for this stuff.''ĭuring other, more-obvious moments in the curtain-time segment (9 p.m. ''We did those things for our own enjoyment, and also for the 1 percent of our audience who would get it,'' executive producer Bruce Paltrow said in a phone interview last week. We can use this scale for more than just translation, so stay tuned for more on that front! There’s an entire team that can help us translate our apps, and another team dedicated to making that process seamless and integrating it into our build & release processes. This second project is a great example of some of the things we’ll be able to do with our new scale here at Automattic. The second is localising our mobile apps into the top 12 languages you, our customers use. First is improving podcast parsing speeds (how quickly you get new episodes after a podcast author publishes them). The very first two projects are already underway. We’ve added some amazing people from Automattic to the team and we continue to look for more (check this page out if you want to come work with us). The highlight would have to be the two of us joining a Town Hall online meeting, with hundreds of faces around the world and introducing ourselves to everyone and answering all the questions they had.īut you’re not here for my “What It’s Like To Join Automattic Blog of Wonder”, you want to know about Pocket Casts and what’s in store! Well at the moment we’re scaling our team back up and we’ve begun work on some things we’ve wanted to do for a while. The first few weeks involved introductions, reading lots of documentation and getting to know where we fit into it all. It’s unlike any other company I’ve ever worked at. They were all so friendly, so welcoming and so excited about working along side us and building great things together. That feeling quickly faded away as we met more and more of the amazing people that work at Automattic. Joining a company with well over a thousand employees, spread around the world was quite intimidating at first. We can’t answer all of those today, but in the spirit of working with a company that values openness we’d like to share more about what’s been going on here at Pocket Casts. We’ve also received a lot of questions around what our future plans are and how things will look going forward. It was amazing to see how many people reached out congratulating us, and to find out that most of you feel the way we do about it being a great home for Pocket Casts. It’s been a month since we shared the news with you all that we’d joined Automattic. I don’t know if it’s my Midwestern roots or whatever, but I was raised with a very humble, “go to work, put your head down, and don’t complain” mentality. I’m somebody whose dream for many years was just to quit waiting tables. It’s a wild thing to hustle for so many years and start achieving some real milestones when you’re almost 50. And that’s really the whole basis of the show-if you really love something, don’t give up on yourself.Īfter working your way through the comedy scene over the past two decades, how does it feel to be having a breakout moment at this stage in your career? Because if one night you’re selling the specials at Ocean Grill on the Upper West Side and the next night you’re playing a sold-out house at Joe’s Pub, you’ve just gotta keep your head down and keep going. I saw him being interviewed by Oprah and he said, “You know, O, D.D.H.D.-Dreams Don’t Have Deadlines.” I was so gripped by it, and now I have it engraved on a piece of jewelry. I always make sure to attribute that to LL Cool J. I wanted to ask about your mantra, “Dreams don’t have deadlines”. Plus, we were shooting 12 scenes a day and moving very quickly, so there wasn’t any time for me to doubt myself. I thought, “Wait, I’m an executive producer and number-one on the call sheet, they can’t fire me!” I was able to live in the moment and just hope for the best. I showed up on the first day of Somebody Somewhere worried I might let everybody down, but it was such a supportive environment. I’ve lived a life full of self-doubt, but I’ve been able to let go of a lot of those feelings of unworthiness. You come off so naturally confident, but did you relate to that aspect of your character? Just trust yourself and give it your best.”Ī moment in the show that really struck me is when Sam says she never let her sister hear her sing because she didn’t think she was any good. I’ve had a lot of people along the way going “Bridget, you’re better than you think you are. Because in real life, I just walk into a room and go, “Nobody wants me here, should I just leave?” I was actually so nervous to do Patti Cake$ that I tried everything I could to get out of it. When I was building my stage character, I was trying to make a confident person who could step into her body and her power and feel on the edge of being alive. You’ve done some really fabulous dramatic work in projects like Unbelievable and Patti Cake$, but Somebody Somewhere represents a big leap for people who know you better as a live performer. We took little pieces from different people and elements of my life and came up with Somebody Somewhere. I’m not a trained actor, so I could use a little help. It was a real challenge for me to find a concept that felt like a good fit since my stage life doesn’t really translate neatly into what might be considered a “narrative series.” But I really wanted to layer in a lot of thematic ideas that are actually important to me in my life. When I got the deal with HBO, we were talking about which writers would be a good fit and Carolyn suggested Paul and Hannah, who I’ve known for years. She’s produced stuff like Game of Thrones and Chernobyl, so my show is a real lateral move for her. Talk me through the origin story of Somebody Somewhere and how it landed at HBO.Ĭarolyn Strauss is the best in the business and I just happen to know her. For a week, I felt like I was a part of something again. Also, Joe’s Pub has the best french fries in the world, and everyone was so warm and welcoming when I came back. I love singing and having that intimate connection to a crowd of people. I am kinda like my character Sam in that way-without music, I feel a little lost. I’ve honestly been really depressed without it. Vogue : How has it felt to be onstage performing for sold-out crowds again?īridget Everett: I hate to be hyperbolic, but it was cathartic. Following a triumphant return to the Joe’s Pub stage after a two-year absence, Everett spoke to Vogue about bringing Somebody Somewhere to life. After years of stealing scenes as a foul-mouthed sidekick, the 49-year old performer finally has a star vehicle that takes full advantage of her talents. Somebody Somewhere is an especially welcome coming-out party for someone who’s been preparing as long as Everett has. Veterans may still wear their Army dress blues under a more limited number of circumstances. For instance, a black bow tie is worn only after the retreat, while a four-in-hand tie is worn on all other occasions. There are slight variations in the regulations regarding your dress blues, depending on the nature of the formal event. You should be wearing dress blues during national holidays, funerals and weddings, parades, and certain military ceremonial events. If you’re currently enlisted in the United States Army, you have a more comprehensive range of events considered formal enough for Army dress blues than veterans do. We’ve broken down exactly what that means in the sections below. What constitutes a proper formal event varies based on whether you are on active duty or a veteran. Events that Warrant Army Dress BluesĪs previously stated, the Army dress blues are worn explicitly during formal events. You may also wear any unit awards, combat and skill badges, full-sized medals, and ribbons that you’ve earned. On your Army blue coat, it’s a requirement to wear an identification badge, your regimental insignia, your branch insignia, hash marks, and overseas bars, if you have them. They consist of a long-sleeved white shirt, a black-tie (in certain instances, a black bowtie is acceptable), an Army blue coat, and Army blue trousers.Ī beret typically accompanies the Army dress blues, but it’s not a requirement to wear any headgear during evening social occasions. Your Army dress blues are the uniform you wear when attending an event that requires formal attire. Make sure to reference this guide the next time you wear your dress blues to ensure you’ve met all of the various uniform regulations and can wear your ribbons and medals with pride. To help you do that, we’ve created this easy guide to Army dress blues, Army dress blues medal placement, and Army dress blues ribbon placement. The standards for dress blues include everything you wear on them, not just medals and ribbons, so make sure you’re aware of all of the specific details of this important dress code. However, just as is the case with any military uniform, there are specific regulations you must adhere to when you place your medals and ribbons on your dress blues. Part of that honor is getting the opportunity to wear those medals and ribbons on your Army dress blues when the situation calls for it. A full list of US Army badges can be found here: Dress Blues Medal & Ribbon PlacementĮarning a medal or ribbon for your service in the United States Army is a great honor. If you don’t mind a steeper learning curve, and don’t have any pressing deadlines coming up, then Cakewalk is a killer choice overall. And, if you do end up wanting to transition to another app, no problem – the skills you learn inside Cakewalk should prove transferable. Whether you’re recording in an amateur and professional capacity, Cakewalk is perfect for all types of projects, and it’s entirely possible you’ll never need another DAW. The benefits are certainly there, though. But the workflow varies significantly from GarageBand, and all the faders, knobs, buttons, and switches might prove a little overwhelming at first.Īs someone who has had to learn a mix of complicated software, like Photoshop, I can appreciate that the transition might not be smooth as you’d like it to be. If you’ve spent time with mixing consoles or other DAWs, then you may feel comfortable out the gate, as it is relatively intuitive. Which is to say, Cakewalk is closer to professional level software, and because of that, its interface is like a traditional mixing interface – kind of like Pro Tools. Now, it’s all well and good that Cakewalk comes with all the essentials you need to get started (plus a few extras). Cakewalk works exclusively on Windows but is compatible with Windows 7 and above. You also get a library of virtual instruments and studio quality effects, including delay, distortion, compression, gate, EQ, filter, phaser, chorus, flanger, pitch shift, reverb, and more.Ĭakewalk features a 64-bit mix engine, resampling, ARA support, and is touch-enabled. It features an award-winning user interface, “industry-best” audio engine with VST3 compatibility, and unlimited audio, MIDI, instrument, loop, and auxiliary tracks. Whether you’re looking to compose, record, edit, mix, master, or share, Cakewalk is fully equipped with the tools you need to get the job done. To gain access to Cakewalk, you will need to install the BandLab Assistant and surrender some of your personal details (like your email address), but my recommendation? Download this baby before BandLab changes their mind. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it either. BandLab’s Cakewalk is premium Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software turned free. |
